phil2237You would be shocked to see back surgery when they do a fusion. One might think that surgery is a very delicate thing. Not so. A lot of hammer work is done & you are very sore during recovery from this. In the surgery above, I would recommend a bigger hammer.

garysssOuch!! Glad they were out of it.
quincyOh God! I hope that person survived the procedure. Was it a joke video? I had my knee replaced 11 years ago and it took 2.5 years to recover from the intense pain. I pray to God it lasts the rest of my life because I do not want to go thru that procedure and recovery again.

not a joke

ed monahanOn the flip side, I had my shoulder replaced 2 1/2 years ago and they cut off the edge of my shoulder socket and put the ball there, and placed a rod with the socket in my arm, in essence reversing the placements. They then stapled my muscles to my arm in a diff. spot. After about 5 days I really didn't have hardly any pain and I have a pretty good range of motion although I tend to walk with my arm at an odd angle most of the time. I no longer have a rotator cuff and didn't have much of one left prior to surgery.
The shoulder has to move in many directions and the knee only moves back and forth basically.
I am posting this so folks don't say "I am never having my knee or hip replaced" after seeing that film clip. That is probably one in a million.
WildCatSue has had both hips replaced, not at same time

45 minutes and he was done with each one.

Was up on it the next day 1st one same day 2nd one

5 back surgeries, fused from L4 to SI and one side of SI joint

There are some bad doctors out there, her 1st back surgery was a bad one. Doc did more than he said which caused more damage and pain, so a 2nd doctor had to start the fusion at L4-L5, then L5-SI, then she got rearended while recovering and then 1 side of SI joint

Before any surgery best to check doctor out for past issues, problem is the doctors usually will not say anything bad about another doctor on the record.

The 1st back surgeon damaged Sues back, 2nd doctor stated this at 1st visit after he seen X-ray, but when ask to deposition he said he didn't recall.

Randy CobbI had knee replacement in Dec of 2011. Developed Arthrofibrosis (sp?) which is quick development of internal scar tissue. Scar tissue would develop faster than it could be broken down. I had to go thru a "manual manipulation" where you are put under and and your leg is manually bent, twisted, etc to break scar tissue up. Pulled thigh and calf muscles. There are some crazy videos of that procedure too.

quincyAlso broke my ankle last december in three places. Now I have 7 screws (2 inside / 5 outside) and a plate about 8 inches long. When they cremate me I'm sure an extra charge will be assessed due to excess sifting of metal parts. The ankle surgery was much easier to recover from than the knee..... Ed. the shoulder surgery sounds miserable. Did you have to sleep in a recliner for a length of time?
ed monahanLou, prior to surgery, I couldn't sleep. Every time I moved, it hurt. I had trouble getting out of bed or even rolling over to get out of bed.
After the surgery they gave me a sling with about 8 or 10 inches of foam at the elbow to keep it out, away from my body. That really made sleeping in bed difficult so I only used it for about 2 days. I was on pain meds which knocks me out. After about 5 days I was riding the lawn mower picking up the leaves with a sweeper behind it, resting my elbow on my knee. After about 4 or 5 days I quit taking the meds so I was coherent. In less than two weeks I was in much better shape and sleeping fine again. I did fall asleep in the recliner plenty of times during the first few days since I was always groggy. I think I was extremely lucky and probably in the top 1 % as to how well and quickly it healed. I was shocked.
